About

What's this all about?

Despite the recent controversy about Alistair Begg, I have been a listener of his for quite a while. He frequently refers to the Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC) and to the benefits of reviewing the catechism to stabilize one's beliefs. With the many culture wars, influences, and heresies that seem to be integrating themselves into the church today, I can't help but to believe that returning to Scripture is the way to filter out all of the noise.

To that end, I went searching for a way to study and review the Westminster Shorter Confession. While The Westminster Standards course at The Gospel Coalition is certainly noteworthy, I found that I was looking more for a way to review the questions in the WSC and also the Scripture Proofs. This led me to subscribe to the Westminster Daily which was very close to what I was looking for, but not quite. Another Google Search led me to For Glory and Joy – A devotion based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

Success! A weekly devotional and prayer that reviews 1-4 questions from the WSC. I started that first Sunday but found that I wanted to modify the format from the PDF version that Pastor Sayler graciously provided. In my mind, I wanted the page a week format and also include the scripture proofs for further study.

This led me to reformat each week's devotion. I converted the PDF to a Google Doc. I created a Google Site linked from my personal GeofD domain. I used the Westminster Standard Shorter Catechism with Text and Scripture Proofs. I'm also copying Scripture Proofs using ESV. Finally, I set up a weekly Google Calendar reminder that links to this site's home page and here we are.

1 Cor. 9:24-26

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.

Just a closer walk with thee

I am weak but Thou art strong

Jesus keep me from all wrong

I'll be satisfied as long as I walk

Dear Lord, close to Thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee

Grant it Jesus, is my plea

Daily walkin' close to Thee

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toils and snares

If I falter Lord, who cares?

Who with me my burden shares?

None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee

Grant it Jesus, is my plea

Daily walkin' close to Thee

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

When my feeble life is o'er

And time for me will be no more

Guide me gently, safely o'er

To Thy kingdom dear Lord, to Thy shore.

Just a closer walk with Thee

Grant it Jesus, is my plea

Daily walkin' close to Thee

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
